Fuck’s
an expletive
an interjection
an invective
a four letter word
an ejaculation...
and then, when you consider
its combinatorial manifestations
and derivatives and parts of speech,
as in,
“You’re a fuck off,”
“Don’t fuck up,”
“Stop fucking around,”
“Fuck off! You fucking mother fucker!”...
as well as changes to meaning
engendered by stress-intonation shifts
like, “You fuck!” (rage)
“You fuck?” (lust),
and, most importantly,
its frequent use
by all sociolinguistic strata,
then fuck becomes
our American
lingua franca.
