Balm

Marc Carver

An old man sits next to me on the bench.
He lights a smoke
but I cannot smell it.

All I can smell is an odd odour coming from him.
Either it is the worst after shave
I have ever smelt or embalming fluid.

As I realize I have never smelt embalming fluid
I laugh out loud
and he finishes his smoke and leaves
and the curious smell goes with him.
