When I first met her
She carried a light
In the depths of her eyes
As bright as the sun

Then a few years later
When I met her again
The light had diminished
To a distant star

The next time I saw her
It was further reduced
To a naked bulb hanging
In a window at night

And now it is just
A tiny white candle
Flickering faintly
In a cold dark room
