I drive past your house.
The plants in the windows
have grown so high,
I can hardly see you.
A man in the car
points at your house.
It is always this way
when I dream of you.

I recognize you
from another dream.
In that dream,
you are forever
turning a key
in a lock.

I am a woman
in a car and
I am driving.

I keep circling
around the block
in love’s sad
NASCAR race.
It is so pitiful
to chase the man
who bought this house
for us in better days.
