The Young Apprentice

“He was a good kid; 17 years old;
he was an apprentice and a good
one too; he took the work
seriously; the kid was good
looking and he had a lovely
girlfriend and he always
seemed okay, you know?
I never saw him laugh
but he was young and
always friendly and he lived
at home with mum and dad
and one afternoon, after work,
he climbed into the loft,
he found a length of cord
and formed a noose
and this snapped,
he found some more
stronger rope and he
strung himself up again and
he was found a little
later by his father;
a letter was found and the
young man confessed his
love for his family; for his
girlfriend; for everybody he
knew
except himself;
he hated himself
but he was a good kid,
he was 17 years old and
he was good looking and
a good apprentice
and he killed himself
and no one
knows why he did it”.
