lurking in the recesses
of my mind
you still feel a welcome
guest,
but i wish you would stop
haunting me;
i don’t need to see the fractured
light of your blue eyes
nor the softness
of your blonde hair or the sweetness of
your lips
even if it’s in my mind’s eye
it’s all said and done
you married
the girl you cheated on me with—
stop haunting me,
wicked ghost,
because i’ve never craved bad things
in my life and never will;
you said that we
should be strangers for my sake,
but i think you did it
for yourself
never once considering this would be harder
on me yet
there were so many things you never let me
say—
i should warn you that i resent any man
who silences me,
and i wish you nothing but to be haunted
by memories of me forever more;
seems a fair price to me for the man who ruined
my life in ways no one has ever thought to,
the man who made me rise from the
premature grave he built me.
