A Villainess

David Francis

She watches the child
running down the aisle,
rigid from her booth
with her dark smeared eyes.

Her husband is a
gaunt translucent man
appropriately seated
next to the coatrack.

Her wooden roving
eyes say: Children should
be kept in their own booth
like me and him.

Her husband waits. She
goes back to the table
and leaves the tip,
skirting in small doll steps.
