I CANNOT SING
Luis Cuauhtemoc Berriozabal
I cannot sing.
I cannot sing today’s news.
I cannot sing for war.
This modern world is much like the past.
The same old prejudices are alive.
The mighty still pick on the weak.
Eloquence’s throat has been slit by wires.
I cannot sing.
I don’t have anything to sing for.
I cannot change the past.
The future remains asleep.
I cannot change the past.
It festers like an open wound.
The past cannot be buried.
It is the present that needs to change.
