while in hospice,
my wife turned
and whispered,
‘You know,
it’s not the dying
or recurring pain
that’s so unsettling;
it’s when you’re truly alive
you’re usually anticipating
what you’ll be doing
next week,
next day,
next year,
next...
only now, I don’t have plans anymore’
