Dream or Premonition

Danielle Hark

I’m dead. I see me. Dead. Laying there
in the tub. Head half above the water,
milky consistency, slowly licked
crimson, blood seeping
lacerations running from wrists
to elbow crease, extraneous pills strewn.

I wonder who will find me. Who will lift me
from my final bath. What the white of the tub
will look like stained with blood remnants
after the water has drained. What I will look like
naked, sprawled out dead across the blue tiles
of the floor, like a beached whale on display,
carcass picked at and meticulously inspected
by every beachcomber and passer by.

Will they cover me with a sheet, or leave me
exposed for everyone to see my wounds?
