Abandoned Doll

Did you see me laying there on the dirt?
Left behind in a tangle of roots and pines,
my once shiny plastic skin dulled by wear
and earth, and too many rough hands.

Unblinking eyes fastened straight ahead.

A tiny black bird danced limb to limb, no,
a fairy.
Where are my wishes?
I pleaded.
If only I had wings.

Hair matted,
clothes torn, unable to move
my stiff,
unjointed legs, I tried to call out
for help,
but plastic lips do not part.
They’re forever molded together
in a perfect pink smile.
