A Failed Gamble

On Sunday morning
of a holiday weekend
while driving on the highway
in a light rain I saw,
either
going to or coming from a car show,
three vehicles whose owners
lost their gamble with the weather:

first,
a custom-made roadster,
with
the name Devil (Kettle, I think
was the second word of the name
I couldn’t quite catch);

second,
an antique car whose make
I couldn’t quite make out;

and third,
a three-wheeled car pulling
a small trailer

The roadster pulled in front of me
on its way to wait on the shoulder:
no windshield wipers

I passed the antique car
shortly after that:
the car
also had no windshield wipers
but didn’t pull off the road,
the driver opting instead
to drive with a window open

And
a few minutes after that

I saw the three-wheeler with trailer
had pulled to the shoulder
and was sitting under an overpass:
the vehicle may have had wipers,
but it didn’t have a top

I wonder what the three of them
did during the much-heavier rain
later in the day
