Won’t Stop until Equality is a Norm

Raymond E. Strawn III

I won’t Stop
Until Equality
Is a Norm
And not a Dream
You see
My life taught me
That racism is real
The color of my skin
Matters to some of you
Quick to judge
Telling me I am not good enough
Cops pushing me down
Searching me
Because I shave my head
Looking for something
They won’t find a thing
Because I don’t do drugs
I don’t carry a gun
Only my words
That scream for change
End this pain

I won’t Stop
Until Equality
Is a Norm
And no longer
Just a Dream
Sick of seeing
More unarmed men
Being gunned down
As if
We can’t be treated
The same
How come
Their hate blinds them
So damn much
Can we please
Have some peace
We all have one life
On this Earth
Let’s spend time
To make this place
Better than it was
For the sake
Of our kids
End this madness

I won’t Stop
Until Equality
Is a Norm
And not a Dream
Take a knee
Ignore the screams
It is respectful
Look up genuflect
Let’s stay focused
On what this is calling for
Change
Positive Change
End the pain
End the madness
Stop the chaos
Stop the mayhem
Quick the racism
Quick the injustice
Here are the facts
I am too scared
To walk down the streets
So I grew out my hair
Sick of being frisked
All because of my looks
I just want to go home to my kids, Officer
Is that too much to ask

I won’t Stop
Until Equality
Is a Norm
And not a Dream
Not a Dream anymore
I won’t Stop
Until Equality
Is a Norm
And not a Dream
Not a Dream anymore
But a Reality
