Our Mother

How is it
that we can dismiss our mother
without a tinge of sin
This same mother
that we saunter with negligence
provides and protects
serves and succors
our naked, impetuous bodies

My mother forewarns
Hoi polloi must defend our mother
I blindly listen
as acid drips from my lips.
Our mother forgives
while her terrain withers
her oceans simmer
and we strip her of her coat

We take advantage
of our mother’s pure frame
We leave her defiled and feeble
We are assailants of our mother.
Yet as she lay mourning
she hoists her branches
to wipe away
our acidic tears
