Linda M. Crate

our destinies are our own,
and bodily autonomy shouldn’t
be sacrificed for the sake of those
who would fight for the unborn
yet let the women carrying them die;
they only care about dreams not realities
don’t understand how dangerous the
rhetoric in these bans really is or how many
lives will be sacrificed to the patriarchy—
it is going to cost the women who already
have too many children and who cannot
afford another,
or the woman who is denied chemo
simply so her body can be used as incubator
for the baby her body houses;
or the mental health of the woman
who was raped and isn’t strong enough to endure
carrying that child—
you say you are pro-life but you’re really pro-birth
uncaring of all the lives you’ll take and all the silences
and voids in families that will be caused,
you prefer your rules
over love or empathy or common sense.
