He must have had shoes.

John Daugherty

One day near downtown
Just after the rain
I saw a man in a suit
But only socks
No shoes
Did I ask if he was OK?
Did I circle around
And see if he had shoes?
I made the car drive
I made a note at the next stoplight
I made this poem
(About how writing a poem
Makes it all better)
I made a joke
(About how you can’t give them money
They will just use it for a hedge fund)
Maybe you laughed
Maybe he was OK
Maybe I imagined he didn’t have shoes
He must have had shoes
Tell me he had shoes
