i only laugh when jokes are funny

i remember when amy winehouse’s song
rehab
came on the radio and a lady
joked and said this song was about the
town i lived in,
and she laughed but i didn’t;
i don’t think people’s trauma or pain is
something to make a mockery of—
pain can change people
into creatures they don’t even recognize,
and sometimes no matter how much
someone wants to better themselves
the monsters win;
so no
i won’t ever laugh about jokes
about rehab
she was another person
lost too soon—
maybe because of people like that lady
who thought to make a joke
that wasn’t funny.
