twenty seven years
nine thousand eight hundred and fifty five days
of pain, of judgment, of ridicule;
maybe the reason
they couldn’t take anymore
was because
instead of being built up
they were torn down—
each of us has the power to lift someone
into their castle,
to adjust their crown in private
so they can gleam and shine;
but so many simply
jump ship and add to the trauma
of someone who has already suffered
enough—
& what is to be gained in being a bully?
only angels
that shouldn’t have gotten their wings
so young,
and i can’t help but think if they were built up
with love and support and dreams:
perhaps they’d still be with us now.
