Old Man & The Boy

Shaking his head
the old man smiled,
looking down on the boy;
gently ruffling his hair.

“Aw, don’t get caught up
by them holy rollers, boy.
Forget all that about
sins & burning in Hell.
Young man,
you gots’ta remove those
darn cinder blocks tied
‘round your ankles.
How’re you goin’ta learn to fly
weighted down like that?”

The boy looked up into
the old man’s watery eyes,
held the old man’s rough
and weathered hand.
“Can you help me?”
