Suffocating In The Shadows

Travis Green

My body was numb,
stunned, scattered
in murky caves,
unsatiated, deprived,
aching, dividing,
saturated square roots
and syllables sinking
inside ghastly galaxies.
I was lingering within
pain-stained dimensions,
paint-drained horizons,
chaotic sounds constructing
wild raging mazes, blazing
frequencies, silver bullets
bombarding through my heart,
as I sat in the darkness
and inhale the amplifying
agony, the twisted tinging
inside my fingertips rising
in extreme motion, trembling
thighs, shapeless shoulders,
sawdust muscles screaming,
splitting, spinning inside poisoned
skies. And as I stared around
the dank space, the jagged
dressers jammed, slammed
against shadowed walls,
forgotten furniture separating
into bitter songs, broken,
stolen, crusty creations falling
below bottomless mountains,
I could feel my ears hardening,
rugged cheeks revolving
around scratchy surfaces,
more like slumped inkwells,
slippery shoulders – distant,
streaks of lopsided lines lingering
in time. I was disappearing into darkened
divisions, becoming a soul-less
beat, a yellowing note discarded,
destroyed, suffocating in the shadows.
