Run along, boys, run along to the voice,
and don’t be droppin’ singleton grapes
all over the sidewalk going to jazz bar number
one and then continuing to tavern number two,
‘cause there are hen’s-teeth few people in the world
‘wanna be squishing red or purple concords
as they tramp the path to hear the songstress
in little club number three. A cardboard semblance
standing out front has her tall and wrinkled
in a gingham bra and stripd pantaloons, and she’s
got the long finger—an enameled finger—crooked
and cocked between her thighs, all-set to friction
her Betty-the-Carter self to a climax-and-a-half,
and if you fellas have managed to reel and wheel
this far, it’s gotta be ‘cause of that paper likeness:
I doubt it owes dick to the frenzied sound.
