The fight still goes on

I’ve lived on my own since I was 19
been to multiple psychologists
and a few psychiatrists
who always said to take this
or that, pill
“This here is an antipsychotic called Risperidone, it’ll be fine”
but that day I couldn’t go to work,
because it wasn’t fine.
and all the women that passed by
said that they would stay.
I almost married one
but the last place I saw her was at the same airport
I met her for the first time,
then came along an angel
born out of chaos
and I had to bury that one.

I’ve learned to love the roses
for who they are
their thorns no longer puncture
my tired hands
and when they wither I’m not unhappy
because we learned to laugh at death
in our empty rooms.
