There’s laughter in misfortune

An old man had been recently blinded
on an accident I never knew about
he was on the bed next to mine
he talked to the nurses and doctors,
asked for a glass of water,
laughed,
then his wife showed up
wearing a fake fur coat
big brown glasses
and lots of fake jewelry
“Why are you laughing” she asked
“You think this is some kind of joke?”
then he got comfortable on the bed
contained his laughter
and said
«Honey, I’m just so glad I’ll never see your bitchy ugly face ever again»
he roared and roared
with laughter
and I joined in too,
his wife looked at us both
took her purse and walked away,
leaving us there
both laughing like children.
