A Visit To The Orthopedist

I stopped at the reception desk
when I arrived at my orthopedist today
the woman at the desk was somebody
than I had seen for years

But, when she told me how much she
enjoyed my Poetry Workshop,
I was taken aback – there were only
13 there then and I’d hadn’t recognized
her today in a different context

I recovered quickly though and
we talked about her having
something to read at the next meeting
she hadn’t read at the workshop

I still felt very bad, however,
about not recognizing her
at the workshop

I felt better, though, when she said
I’m so used to see you on crutches
It’s good to see you walking so well
I’ve never been on crutches
