Check Her Out

Avery Goodman

I met my wife on-line and it was love at first sight.
We clicked immediately.
She’s from Ecuador so I understood it was natural
that the Earth would revolve around her. I decided
to make her the center of my world too.

Of all the heavenly bodies out there, I easily find
hers the most attractive.
This South America is a prime Amazon gift -
but she can’t be male ordered.
A Wonder(ful) Woman, this goddess of goodness
protects me from evil and makes me speak the truth
without fear of a beatdown or a whipping.

She’s a straight shooter, plainly transparent, and
comfortable around everyone.
Best of all for me, I was able to rapidly engage her.
Currently, the power company is suing her for
lighting up the world, brightening the lives of
strangers, and for giving me all my power.
Men at the supermarket let her go ahead of them in
line just to check her out.
She’s the angel on my stairway to heaven, lifting my
spirits, and making me higher than I’ve ever been.
She takes my breath away and makes me breathe
easy, all at the same time.
Her internal guidance never steers me wrong.
She doesn’t wig out over my bald spot.
She keeps me on my toes but not under her heel.
She’s a doll that’s as real as can be.
Her heart listens as well as her ears do.
She likes to mix it up around the house and stir
things up in the kitchen but the icing on the cake
is at night when she brings her sweet buns and
spice to the bedroom.
She’s a honey that will never go bad but knows
how to spoil.
Sunflowers turn her way as she walks by.
Street mimes can’t quit talking about her.
She’s a woman with big wits and she’s all mind.
Her smile makes me happy. Her happiness makes
me smile.

She’s a treasure, with a heart of gold, tucked inside
a beautiful chest.
I believe God was a bit unfair when He created her.
What could He have been thinking, putting so much
beauty and grace into just one woman?
Her only vanity comes with a chair and a mirror.
She never plays the sympathy card, even if the deck
is stacked against her. She simply plays the hand
she’s dealt and refuses to lose.
She doesn’t allow her problems to trouble her.
If we hit a rough patch, she smooths things over.
I was never a player but it was game over as soon as
I saw her. She was out of my league but I stepped up
to the plate, took a swing, and watched as an amazing
long-shot brought her home, making me a winner.

All I have left to say is “thank you”, to whoever gave
me this beautiful gift, wrapped inside such a pretty
package, and delivered to me when I needed it most.
