They called me loony
While they ignored
My calls.

Why don’t you try
Going out more?
Mother asked.

They said my deck
Wasn’t full to explain
Why the bullets

That end each suit
Scare the words
Out of me.

Why don’t you try
A new hobby?
Father asked.

They claimed the bats
Loosened all the screws
In my belfry

While I stood on the roof
Watching my self
Drift away.

I know I raged.
I can’t just make
Myself happy.
