Lost in Transition

Tristan Young

As I left work, I raced those exiting the building, walking beside me. They too were lost in transition, done with work, their family quarrels recently burrowed had now repositioned themselves at the forefront of their thoughts, alongside debts and every other problem in and out of reach of manipulatable outcome. I too found myself not living in the moment, but were my thoughts and life’s quarrels not more important than time spent traveling from point a to point b, whether on foot or by car, what has been lost sitting in traffic, by not being present in that moment? I’d like to imagine that nothing has been lost, but rather something better or different than my present state allows has been gained. Still, I can’t help but wonder if anything of meaning has been lost along the way.
