I Am Done

There are days when the world
is happy to bow at my feet
and I am happy to let it.
Days when I feel muscles
that I don’t even have
ripple and flex,
when everything dark cowers
and everything evil flees.

There are other days too.
Days when the most microscopic fleck,
the shrinking shadow of a shadow
can laughingly devour me.
And does.

The first are rare and precious
and mainly imagined.
The second are today
and every goddamned other day.

And I am done.
I am done.
