In My Dresser Drawer

Scott Varengo

Today you were a rock
and I, the ocean
broke against you.

Crashing endlessly
for uncounted ages
battering
bathing
until you become sand.

Now a secluded shoreline
I walk upon you
feel you between my toes.
You smell like salt
and fish.
You sound like
unwritten songs.
You taste like childhood.

I scoop you up
and carry you home
sleeping with you
in my dresser drawer.
