Panic

In the yellow half-light
of decay, midway through
the West Rock Heroes Tunnel,
when the traffic slows and
the radio shuts down,

ahead, he sees
six hundred feet of concrete,
cracked and chipped, and water
seeping through the walls
and ceiling from above.

His music gone,
each time he screams
he sounds the horn— to stop
the mountain from collapsing
to keep the cars and pick-up
trucks in line.
