the world tests you,
pokes and prods;

i always apologized
for who i am and all the things
i lacked
over the years—

no longer
am i sorry,
i am who i am
flaws and failures;
goodnesses and successes

are all wrapped around
these bones—

i am magic, i am divinity, i am power;

they try to limit us and tell us
everything we’re not
because they know they would go bankrupt
if we knew we were everything we are—

may never be considered
a perfect lady,
but i wasn’t born to be her;
i was born to be me.
