Stand your ground
Let your arms go limp
As he burns a cigarette
Over the echoes of your scars
You should have listened carefully
To his crackling words of heat and smoke

Be prepared
Close your eyes
Anticipate the bullet
Of a punch to your head
But she does it out of love
That’s what she always told me

Drop your guard
Open your ears
To the angel planting
Curses in your fertile mind
Is God pleased with what He sees?
The weak become weaker

Alone
Stagnant
An unfiltered pond
Whose water never flows
Moss growing on the surface
