Daydreaming After Work

Brian C. Miller

Sometimes I wonder what it would be like
to have a wife. A woman who knows
I love music and coffee, and chocolate.
But hate elevators, airplanes, and bugs.
I wonder how it would feel to share
our finances, or share the sheets at night
the way seeds share dirt in a garden.

When the bathroom turns into a pond,
she gets mad because I’m not a plumber.
But we laugh at the silliness of the scene,
and the dirty word out of her mouth.
We could be a team in the kitchen.
I wash the dishes in dish liquid
while she dries and puts them away.
