Faraway Scarecrow

I feel like a scarecrow walking down
an empty, cracked yellow brick road.
Crows chew around my shoes
because my brain, heart, and courage
vanished under a giant rainbow.
The rainbow inhales dust air
and exhales smoke rings in the sky.
As I try to find my path,
kids laugh and run through me,
leaving a dab of hay and straw
on the shoulder of the brick road.
When the hay and straw blow away,
pressure fills up in my head.
The sun’s honey-like glow flashes
a videotape of a million memories,
like the click of a magic wand.
I see myself as a boy thinking,
running on the playground
as a hint of blacktop heats the air.
