you made me read your dirty poem

you made me read your poem
on the night we met, right when we both thought
something would happen.

yours was a dirty poem
not explicitly sexual nor intentionally vulgar
yet full of dirt,

I ate from your poem
all the dirt I could ingest without puking
while you sat next to me, our thighs touching.

you don’t show poems to strangers
the equivalent of having sex in public on the first date
but you wanted to be stripped naked right there in front of me and so you did

I don’t remember your poem,
I don’t remember if it was good or bad
I was too busy thinking of something clever to say
all I remember is that it was a dirty poem.
