A Sick Love

Maria was close to death
when she met Tanzler
the two of them was inseparable
the heart and the mind
still the same age
while she was in the hospital

During her last days alive
he was more attached to her body
He surrounded her bed
with fine things from her country
he knew she would cling to
when he was away

He claimed her spirit convinced him
to take her from the grave
He left love songs sprinkled on her grave
He stole her remains from her grave

For almost a decade he transformed her
into a fine young doll
by replacing her skin with shreds
of silkworms instead
then filling her with little pieces
of spring eloquent dresses and splashing her
with a light pink flowery scent
to mask the scent of her long decay

Still those who knew them say
or saw her taken back to the grave
Even when she was gone
he couldn’t let her go
it was never considered a crime
