Even if I was never disappeared
my photographs of an 8 or 9-year
old me belong with the other grainy
photos of the missing kids pictured
on 1980s’ milk cartons

A face slightly fat a grin goofy
but also smug an innocence which
had the charisma of privilege how
would not want to kidnap me?

But no one did and I proceeded
played drank and after multiple
screw ups matured into a modicum
of middle-class success driving in
a gray sedan probably like the one
that could have swooped me up
