the day begins

dirty, stained mattress.
no sheet.
no frame.
we wake up
and make love

in the early sunlight
booming
in from between
tattered curtains,
hanging
askew.

she goes to clean up.
I watch her go.

she steps
over
empty bottles
and
cans
naked.

I lay there for a
second
and I feel
unhappy
and I roll
over
and
stare at the
loose
change
on the floor.
