Wrecked

Travis Green

I was wrecked like a smashed beat,
bleeding, streaming in slippery seas
below zero degrees, my skin freezing,
weeping, sleeping, hands numb,
shoulders slumped, sunken like
city slums, darkness filling my chest,
compressed, congested, depressed,
alienated from the outside world
as l lingered around empty spaces,
dazed, breaking, fading into blackened
shadows. I felt nothing within my soul,
no hollow opening to welcome in
the light, to remind me what was right,
to stop this excruciating pain in my domain.
And as I stood outside staring at the somber
landscape, the maddened trees and leaves
rising in anger and fiery flames, the sky
filled with jagged letters expressing
the deep and cold diction surfacing
my cells, the wind howling in thunderous
tunes, enraged to the core, blending
in with my heart as I harbored this aching
sensation within my existence, I was dying
beneath swollen seas, no explanation,
no realization to what was occurring
within me. The colors of my world
were painted dark and grey, loneliness
and sadness running off the surface
of the rough-edged canvas, my eyes rusted brown,
my cracked lips dry and unfulfilled, so broken,
floating in a million oceans that led to nowhere.
