i am an omen
you tell your children
not to be:

free spirit,
independent thinker,
old soul;

in a world where everything is imitation
there’s some flattery in knowing
i will only ever be the only me—

take your normalcy and choke
in the words of morticia adams:
“what is normal for the spider

is chaos for the fly.”
go ahead, get stuck in webs,
be devoured by spiders;

i have loftier goals than to be
caught in the peril of death
of another—

i am not someone you can consume,
and perhaps your should’ve taught your
children to be predators not prey.
