I was on the downside of my career
when I agreed to be a guinea pig
A doctor had discovered the fountain of youth,
a concoction he called the elixir of life
I was injected with it and pitched better ball
for the remainder of the season
I was disappointed there were no more shots,
and even more disappointed a century or so later
when it was shown the elixir had no real effect
except as a placebo
