My younger brother
His girlfriend and
Her brother
Were killed
By an equally young
Drunk driver

Who after consuming too many beers
Went speed traveling interstate 80
Fell asleep at the wheel
Drifted off the road
At the precise location
Two other cars were stopped
Instantly wiping out three lives
By smashing their bodies
Between the stationary
Vehicles

The inebriated sleeping driver
Had hundreds- thousands of miles
Available to fling himself off
Route 80 stretches from
New York to California

Likewise the victims
Their breakdown
Occurring in the exact same place
Is extraordinary
A classic million to one shot

The driver attending a party
Blowing off some steam
Never intended to kill anyone

The victims, on their way
To a Christian sponsored sobriety retreat
When one car’s engine failed
They were transferring
Possessions from one vehicle
To the other

When the spinning spectral
Wheel of misfortune stopped

On, bam, you’re dead
