Janis Joplin

Erren Kelly

often walked around barefoot
and wrote her dreams with stars
she was what happened when
bessie smith had a fling
with a white man for fun

she was a flower child from
port arthur, texas, who grew up
in the soil of the blues

how can a mind be so
psychedelic?
how can a soul sound so
stereophonic?

she left her message of
love like pixie dust
all along the haight
my uncle cleo
probably knew chicks
like her, back in the day
when he was fighting to
rid the world of
hate

she walked around in a
hippie dress, a full grin
with no shoes
dancing in the morning time
drunk on those kozmic
blues
