Flutter me with your petals,
these pale white shinings.
Let them print patterns on the sidewalk
guided by the precise & crisp movement
of the stars.

As I stalk toward morning,
wringing bound wrists,
tasting blood-drippings on my red tongue,
from the east the frost drives
into my eyes,
an offering of inferior waters.
But I hold out hope in the wrestle
of my sister’s great fire-shield—
I count myself to pace
in time to the winter tulips
in your hands.

Side with me in the stark woods,
let us bury the broken core
under twig of birch,
mulch of leaf. Struggle with me
against the giant wrath of night
which takes the white petals under.
Or break from the hold of my hand
& leave me to perish
bent on the branch.
