A Touch of Honesty

I have a melancholy personality,
but I’m happy that way.
It suits my mood and disposition.
I feel closer in spirit
to a chilly day than a sunny one.
It’s just the way I am.
In my world it’s perpetual autumn,
not summer again.
The rain has only just stopped.
The pavements are still wet
and smell of fallen leaves.
The wind is gaining speed
and momentum.
The nights are drawing in.
Hurry up. Time is running out.

What made me different?
Why didn’t I inherit the work ethic
shared by my father, mother and sister?
I just don’t have it.
The values of others don’t matter to me.
I don’t share them, even when I try.
I’m not a sociable guy.
I feel uncomfortable in social settings.
I dislike their falseness.
I prefer to be alone
and spend time by myself.
I don’t like people all that much.
I prefer the company of animals and pets.
I won’t apologise.
I’m just being honest.
