I know this one guy
who lives in Carolina.
and he’s a claims adjuster
(says he’s a claims adjuster)
(I only know him
through the internet)
and he is
there now,
sitting in Carolina,
just as Florence
hits.

and he’s got in
his food
and water,
(says he’s got
food and water)
and he keeps talking
mostly
online
about the work
he’ll have after
the storm.

I guess
that’s people. death
on wind
and whistling hooves
and all he’s worried about
is talking on the internet
and getting to work in the morning.

I suppose
we all do that
on a certain scale.

a scale
that nobody
talks about.
