Dream

Richard K. Williams

I spent today
Balanced upon a ladder

Hanging cameras
On someone else’s dream

This dream
Under construction

Uninhabited
Except during daylight hours

When other workmen like me
Take up temporary residency

To toil
Upon the same dream

But I stole a moment
Perched on a parapet

To watch the sun setting
Into the motivational ocean

While the wind rattled my clothes
Like I was sky diving

While the winter air
Crisp and biting stung my flesh

I watched the sky transform
From blue to blazing carotene

Reflections of clouds on fire
Reverberated from the water

As seagulls floated across
The blistering bulls’ eye
Which slowly extinguished
Into the icy waters of the Atlantic

It occurred to me that
While the dream, belongs to others
This particular, unique, spectacular sunset
Was all mine.
