i am not your butterfly
won’t catch me
in your snare or nets,
and your ropes may suspend
my flight but i will break them
with my rage;

and i will fly again
with a vengeance that will
break your resolve—

i am not someone you meddle with,

but people haven’t learned that yet;
they think i’m weak and they think
i’m easily read but they’re illiterate—

they don’t see the wrath bubbling
within, beneath the surface;

they only know i prefer kindness
and flowers and open fields but i will
become the dark forest and a rose
full of thorns and thistles that make a
man bleed until he can bleed no more—

it’s the quiet ones you should fear,
we actually think.
