Happy birthday
to my neuroses,
it feels like only yesterday
when you were birthed
inside my mind
saying hello
with an attack
on my self-worth,
and it was a good one too,
can’t say I’ve
ever recovered.
The way you moved
to my sense of trust
and my confidence
was seamless.
I am less of a person
than I should be
because of you.
Don’t be offended
that I haven’t been
celebrating your special day
the last few years.
I try to improve every day
despite your voice
amid the noise in my head.
Take my gift of
two upraised middle fingers
and go to hell.
