In the corner
wedged tightly
to the left of the sink.

An enameled block
covered with pictures,
notes, drawings, and magnets.

Someday, you’ll have to move it.
Imagine the ancient treasures
to be discovered among the oily clumps

of dust and dirt
hardened bits of food
and mysterious stains.

Perhaps a faded, yellowed
photograph, of you and a former friend
lost lover, or family member

the edges curled from heat.
Fallen, from the magnetic force
that held it in place

not unlike the relationship
Dissipating over time
until you slipped apart.

Falling into the routine
beneath the weight and heat
of life that became survival.

But looking to the future
when you move the refrigerator, discovering
an opportunity for reunion or reconciliation.
